Connecting to NU VPN-Mac OS

Solution

Configuring VPN on macOS
In most situations you should be able to connect to the Northwestern VPN using the macOS
native VPN client. If you can't successfully connect using the native client, we recommend
downloading and configuring the Cisco AnyConnect client.

1. Click Apple > System Preferences > Network

2. Click the + button at the bottom left of the screen to add a new connection. (Note: You
may need to click the LOCK icon to enable editing of Network Settings.)

3. Complete the following, then click Create:

o Interface: VPN
o VPN Type: L2TP over IPsec
o Service Name: Northwestern VPN

4. In the Network window complete the following, then click OK:
o Server Address: vpn-nu.vpn.northwestern.edu
o Account Name: your NetID
o Authentication Settings
 Leave Password blank
 Shared Secret: northwesternvpn
 Click OK
o Check Show VPN status in menu bar
o Click Advanced...
Check Send all traffic over VPN connection and click OK
o Click Apply
